Artifort F582 Ribbon Chair

1966, Pierre Paulin

Particularities

  • Unlike modern production methods, where the upholstery has a zip on the back, we use a traditional approach. We hand-sew the upholstery closed at the back, resulting in a beautifully flowing end result.
  • Pierre Paulin was able to create his first designs in collaboration with Thonet, such as the CM 137, the forerunner of the F157-Oyster. After this, he started working as a designer for Artifort, where he built on the techniques he had used in the CM 137.
  • Artifort emerged from the Maastricht furniture upholstery firm 'Wagenmans & van Tuinen'

      Before & after

This Ribbon Chair was completely reconstructed from scratch.

First building up the foam layer by layer, then upholstering it in this stunning bright red Tonus from Kvadrat.
