Such a design sofa may be perceived as ‘beautiful’ and ‘innovative’, but it is and remains an object of use and, in the case of the Polder Sofa, the traces of grateful use are usually clearly visible and there is a great need to have the sofa fully restored again. A greater compliment a designer cannot get. Thank you Hella, for designing a Dutch design classic!

Make-over
The original 2005 model received a makeover in 2016. From Vitra Netherlands, we were then asked if we could formulate an answer to re-upholstery requests from the first version. Since then, we have been upholstering a Polder Sofa in the various original colour combinations on a weekly basis.
Besides the 5 standard colour combinations (anthracite, brown, cream, green & red), 3 versions with Kvadrat have also been developed (anthracite, cream & camouflage) and a beige/natural version devised by Monique L. Anker.

The Dutch polder
A polder is an artificially reclaimed piece of land surrounded by dykes and drainage canals. The Polder sofa is reminiscent of this: just as deep, just as flat and with an equally wide horizon. Hella Jongerius chose five coordinated combinations of colours and fabrics for the sofa. She accentuated these colour and fabric combinations with high-tech yarns and large buttons made of natural materials
